BEAUTY AT HOME WITH
We continue our Beauty at Home With series with Jason Saft, founder of luxury home staging firm ‘Staged To Sell Home’, as he invites us into his thoughtfully curated New York City apartment. Every detail is carefully crafted, from the cherished art to the heirlooms that form a timeless backdrop to the evening rituals shared with his daughter. For Jason, the beauty of home isn’t about perfection - it’s about creating an authentic space, rich with memories and crafted for connection.
To me, the beauty of home lies in creating a space of intention, a space of purpose, a space of calm. My home is the place I crave when I’m feeling off, because it centers me and lifts my spirit. It’s a space I was drawn to—and slowly, over time—have personalized with my most beloved objects, mementos, and art. It’s a space I experiment in and with, to enhance the space itself—and in turn, to enhance myself and anyone who spends time there. The beauty of home is a deep connection to filling a space with memories, and making them there.
The most cherished possession in my home is a small needlepoint that used to hang in my grandmother Libby’s apartment. I didn’t get to see her often growing up—visits were rare—but they were always filled with laughter, an apartment crowded with tchotchkes, soda (forbidden at home), and her slipping a $20 bill into my hand as I left, saying, “Treat yourself to something nice.”
In her bathroom was a needlepoint made by my Aunt Roberta. It showed a man in the shower and a naked woman sitting on the tub, talking to him. As a kid, I thought they were real people and was strangely drawn to it. I would sneak into the room just to look at it.
Right after that in my memory is her candy dish. It sat on a table next to the sofa, and I’d fill my pockets with the orange and lemon citrus candies. My grandmother was wise to my pilfering—when I’d disappear to look at the needlepoint, she’d quietly refill the dish.
When I bought my apartment, there was a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. It was in great condition—it just needed a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up. I’ve been collecting objects, art, and books for decades, but I’d never had a space to display them all. They were always scattered across four or five different locations.
Now, I have my collections at home, and I’m constantly reconfiguring the shelves with new objects. I use the space to test out ideas for our projects by creating new vignettes at home.
My favorite memory is an amalgamation of countless winter nights spent sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace, playing board games and cards with my daughter. We often pause for impromptu dance parties and marshmallow roasting.
Our approach is similar to how I design my own home: start with a focal point, build around it, and fill the space with things you love—things that excite you. Don’t be afraid to experiment or to edit yourself until, deep down, you feel you’ve created something truly special.
