New York in Black and White

Melbourne based stylist and image maker, Elise Boreham shares her love for travel and design through breathtaking photography. Finding the beauty in minimalism and simplicity is the defining narrative in all her work.

We asked Elise to share some photos from her most recent trip to New York, along with her top 5 tips on what not to miss when in the big apple.

1.

Fairfax Cafe, West Village - Nestled deep in Elise's favourite NY neighbourhood, this corner cafe has delicious brunch and an even more delicious interior.

Fairfax Cafe is an all day neighbourhood cafe and restaurant, serving up all kinds of yummy meals all day. Enjoy a coffee and pastry in the morning, lunch with friends or a romantic dinner over a bottle of wine at night.

2.

The Guggenheim - Go for the building, stay for the art.

The Guggenheim Museum is a must when visiting New York. One of those things we should all tick off our bucket lists. Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Guggenheim building is one of a kind, and just as spectacular on the inside as on the outside.

The museum offers something for everyone, enjoy special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, lectures by artists and critics, performances and film screenings, classes for teens and adults, and daily tours of the galleries led by museum educators

3.

Hit a Manhattan rooftop - Take your pick! The Rockefeller and the Whitney are two of Elise's favourites. That view is something else.

The Rockefeller - Top of the Rock Observation Deck

With sweeping, unobstructed views iconic Central Park, Manhattan's Midtown and pretty much all of New York, the observation deck is hard to beat.

Address: 45 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10111, USA

The Whitney - Studio Cafe Rooftop Cafe and Bar

Spectacular views of the Meatpacking district and more. Enjoy delicious meals and drinks at the cafe and visit the Whitney Museum while you are there.

4.

Ride a bike in Central Park - It might sound predictable, but it lives up to all the hype and is another New York must.

Enjoy Central Park's iconic scenery as you pedal along comfortably at your own pace. Stop along the way for a gondola ride at the Lake, a meal at the Boathouse, explore the winding trails, go birdwatching, stroll through the Conservatory Garden, climb up Belvedere Castle or check out the Alice in Wonderland statue.

Fun fact: Everything you see in Central Park is man-made, dating back to 1859—even the waterfalls can be turned on and off.
