I N T E R V I E W | 3 Winter Wine Picks from Vino Fiend

22 MAY

Drinking time: Weekday evening

Vickery Riesling

Watervale 2015

This Watervale Riesling has delicious orchard fruit aromas - think apricot and nectarine - with big peach flavours driving through to a subtle lime finish.
Dry,  with light acidity,  this delicately textured wine is perfect on its own to unwind after work or with simple, light dinner.

Drinking time: Girls lunch

Cape Mentelle 'Brooks' Chardonnay

Margaret River 2015

With intense pineapple flavours and creamy buttery notes, this is a bold and modern Chardonnay.
A full bodied wine with light oak, it matches perfectly  with a cheeseboard including a creamy blue and quince paste, or chicken and leek pie

Drinking time: Sunday dinner

Rymill Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A decadent way to end the weekend is with this South Australian Cab Sav.
With chocolate and leather on the nose and blackcurrant on the palate, made interesting by a slightly savoury finish. This is the wine you imagine drinking with cosy winter meals like roast leg of lamb or duck confit. Best when decanted for around 20 minutes before serving.  It will also age well for 6+ years in the cellar, but why wait?
